For the Assay
S a m p l e S o l u t i o n . Accurately weigh and transfer 0.10 g of the dodecyl alcohol into a 50-mL volumetric flask. Dissolve, and dilute to volume with hexanes. Mix well, and stopper.

Measure the area under all the peaks after the solvent peaks, and calculate the dodecyl alcohol content in area percent. Relative retention for dodecyl alcohol to hexanes is approximately 8.8. Correct for water content.
Color (APHA) [Part 2: Measurement of Physical Properties; Color (APHA); Procedure for Color (APHA)].
Water [Part 2: Titrimetric Methods; Water by the Karl Fischer Method; Coulometric Procedure; Coulometric Procedure for Samples Using Karl Fischer Reagent, Method 2]. Use 1.0 mL (0.832 g) of the sample.
