Bis(imino)pyridine iron alkyl complexes across three oxidation states have been synthesized and it has been shown that all redox changes occur at the ligand, not the metal center. The cationic versions of these compounds are the first single component iron polymerization catalysts and shed important light on the nature of the active species in these important processes.
