will host the 36th ACS Midwest Regional Meeting ( M W R M 2001) from Wednesday Oct. 10, through Saturday Oct. 13, at the Burnham-Yites Conference Center of the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Neb. The meeting will feature eight invited symposia and several general lecture and poster sessions. For detailed information, visit the meeting website: http://wendigo.unl.edu/ mwrm. SPECIAL EVENTS. The University of Nebraska, Kearney ACS Student Affiliates (SAACS) chapter will host several activities for undergraduates. Sessions on professional development include "Resume Writing for Undergraduates," "Choosing a Graduate School," and roundtable discussions with panelists who are professional chemists. Social activities include a "Camera Craze" scavenger hunt, a coffeehouse gathering, and karaoke with door prizes. An undergraduate hospitality room will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM onThursday and Friday All undergraduate oral and poster presentations will be integrated into the general technical sessions. The Midwest Awards Reception and Banquet will be held on Thursday evening. identAttilaE. Pavlath will present the Midwest Regional Award for High School Teaching to Julie A. Larsen, who teaches chemistry physics, and advanced physical science at Kearney High School. A diversity luncheon will be held on Thursday and will feature a panel discussion on issues facing women chemists and younger and minority chemists. On Friday morning, all registered meeting attendees are invited to join ACS District V Director E. Ann Nalley and other ACS governance members at the ACS District Director's Breakfast to learn about recent ACS Board actions and to share ideas and concerns about ACS membership. Also on Friday is the Midwest Regional Meeting Steering Committee Luncheon. Frank E. Walworth, special assistant for the 125th ACS Anniversary Program, will host a special symposium on the history of chemistry M W R M will also host a traveling exhibit, sponsored by the Chemical Heritage Foundation, featuring the chemistry of Robert B. Woodward, winner of the 1965 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Additionally, the University of Nebraska, Lin-

coln, department of chemistry will host an alumni reunion. CAREER RESOURCES. The ACS Career Resource Center, featuring the Regional Employment Clearing House (RECH), will offer career workshops, resume reviews, and a resource library on Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM and on Friday from 8:30 AM to noon. Registration for RECH will take place on Wednesday evening. ACS members and national and student affiliates interested in registering as job candidates can obtain information from the ACS fax-on-demand service at (877) 2270505, the Career Services home page at http://www.chemistry.org/careers, or by phone at (800) 227-5558 ext. 6208. Resumes will be accepted from candidates who are not able to attend the meeting. The deadline for returning all sign-up forms to the ACS Department of Career Services is Sept. 24. ACS Career Services will offer minisessions covering the components of managing an effective job search on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. There is no cost, and no registration is required.
