92,000 hours at skin temperatures of I600-I700T. Furnace tubes still perform like new. These tubes were installed in a steam methane reformer furnace in 1953. Shell Chemical Company expected them to withstand high temperature, combustion gas atmospheres and corrosion. In the catalyst packed INCOLOY* alloy 800 tubes, operating at external skin temperatures of 1600-1700° F, natural gas and steam react to form hydrogen for use in ammonia synthesis at Shell's Ventura, Calif, plant. Today, after ten years of service,

these tubes still look and perform like new. And there are good reasons: 1. INCOLOY alloy 800 has the mechanical properties needed for high temperature operations—high creep and rupture strength. 2. The alloy resists oxidation and scaling. 3. It has good resistance to corrosion from combustion gas atmospheres. 4. It resists carburization. 5. And-INCOLOY alloy 800 does

not form the embrittling "sigma" phase in the critical 1100 to 1600° F range. So, next time you're selecting materials for a new furnace or for ret u b i n g , make sure you have t h e important facts on INCOLOY alloy 800 right at hand. Write today for copies of bulletins T-40, "Engineering Properties of INCOLOY alloy 800" and "INCOLOY alloy 800 Extruded Tubing in the Petrochemical Industry."
