Accelerated Publication In order to accelerate the publication of manuscripts dealing with experimental results of unusual and timely significance, Biochemistry will accord preferential status to such select manuscripts and expedite their publication. In order to qualify for accelerated publication, the work must be judged to be of exceptional significance and to be of immediate interest to the general reader of Biochemistry. Such manuscripts must contain all elements of a regular manuscript and satisfy the usual criteria governing the publication of papers in Biochemistry, but must not exceed four printed Biochemistry pages (including illustrations, tables, and references). The manuscript must be accompanied by a transmittal letter giving the reasons why the authors believe that the work justifies accelerated publication. The transmittal letter should include the names of at least three, but not more than five, knowledgeable scientists who are qualified to act as impartial reviewers. The ribbon copy, two additional copies, the transmittal letter, and the mailing envelope must be clearly marked “FOR ACCELERATED PUBLICATIONn. Every effort will be made to expedite the reviewing and processing of such manuscripts, with the aim of reaching an editorial decision within three weeks after receipt in the editorial office. Except for minor revisions, such manuscripts will be either accepted or rejected. It is intended to publish these papers within two months after acceptance. Galley proofs of papers accepted for accelerated publication must be returned to the publications office within 24 hours. Papers accepted for accelerated publication will appear as a special section in the front of each issue. They will not displace or delay the publication of regular papers. It is intended to limit the number of accelerated publications in each issue, as dictated by experience. If necessary, there also will be a limit to the number of accelerated publications allowed an author in any given calendar year. Questions regarding the suitability of manuscripts for accelerated publication should be addressed to the editor.
