TESTS Sensitivity Dissolve 0.135 g of mercuric chloride in 500 mL of water. To 20 mL of this solution, add 0.25 mL of the solution reserved from the test for solubility in acetone. A violet color should develop.
Residue after Ignition [Part 2: Gravimetric Methods; Residue after Ignition]. Ignite 2.0 g. Moisten the char with 2 mL of sulfuric acid.
Solubility in Acetone Dissolve 0.2 g in 25 mL of acetone. The sample should dissolve completely, and the solution should be clear and red. Reserve this solution for the sensitivity test.
