Analytical Reviews and Advertisers' Product Guide throughout the world are indebted to 24 of their colleagues who, for the past two years, have followed closely and noted developments in their areas of specialization. Only those who have prepared such reviews can appreciate the endless hours involved in selecting significant trends and developments from a tremendous amount of material. Even then the job is only half done. The problem of assembling, writing, and editing the material is equally arduous. The results of all this effort appear in this year's reviews of applications of analysis, control, and instrumentation in 15 major areas. Brief biographies and photographs of these outstanding scientists appear on the following pages. Those who have saved their reviews since they first appeared in 1949, now have approximately 2200 pages of basic reference material. These reviews constitute a comprehensive record of the accomplishments in both the fundamental and applied aspects of analytical chemistry over the past decade. In addition to the reviews, the editors are also presenting a "buyer's guide" to apparatus, glassware, instruments, reagents, and research chemicals, electronic devices, and nuclear equipment. In earlier years, this index consisted of references to products which had been advertised during the previous year. This year, the index consists of all products of interest to readers which are supplied by AC's advertisers. There is also presented an alphabetical list of the many companies which advertise in ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. This list, which includes the majority of suppliers of such equipment, also supplies the addresses of the companies and a brief description of their product line. The Readers' Information Service card makes it easy for the reader to obtain information concerning any of the items named in the guide. Just circle the appropriate number, tear out and mail the postage-paid card. The desired information will follow from the supplier. On our own behalf, and for the thousands of readers, we wish to express our thanks to the authors and others who make these review issues possible. A NALYTICAL CHEMISTS
