Application call: Inaugural Langmuir Early Career Advisory Board A large fraction of Langmuir’s authors are scientists in the early stage of their career. Their important contributions to the journal and its community is recognized by Langmuir in various ways. Last year, a complete Langmuir issue was devoted to their contributions in the field of interface and colloid science. They are invited frequently to present their work in Feature Articles and, more recently, in Mini-reviews. Langmuir awards are presented during scientific meetings worldwide to salute “young” presenters for the exceptional quality of their presentation. I am happy to announce here the creation of the Langmuir Early Career Advisory Board (ECAB). This initiative aims to promote exchanges between scientists actively building their early career and the Senior Editors and Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) members of Langmuir. As I see it, it will bring about changes in our journal, as it takes into account the ideas and perspectives of this generation of authors, readers, and peer reviewers. In return, Senior Editors and EAB members will provide professional mentorship and networking opportunities, as well as a chance to learn about scientific publishing, science communication, and much more. The appointment will be for a 2-year term. During this time the ECAB members will be given opportunities to be guest-editors of Special Issues on a relevant topic of their choice, to contribute to Virtual Issues, to suggest social media content, and to attend biannual board meetings, among other contributions for the promotion of Langmuir and its impact in current and future surface and colloid science. Eligible applicants are practicing scientists (in academia, industry, or national laboratories). They will have completed their PhD after January 1st, 2014. We’re seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds, geographical locations, and subfields of interface and colloid science. Applications should include: CV including a complete list of publications, 2 letters of recommendation, and a brief statement including research interests and a description of why the applicant is uniquely suited to participate on the Langmuir ECAB (maximum 1 page).
