T h e Albert Victor Bleininger Memorial Award has been established by the P i t t s burgh Section of the American Ceramic Society as an annual award for distinguished achievement in the field of ceramics. I t has been established as a memorial to o n e of the world's m o s t eminent ceramists, a founder of the Pittsburgh Section, the late Albert Victor Bleininger, and will be in the form of a medallion and a scroll. Dr. Bleininger was a charter member of the American Ceramic Society and of t h e white wares division. I n 1903 he was a trustee of the Society; in 1904, v i c e president; in 1908, president; and from 1923-26, trustee. H e was one of t h e founders of the Institute of Ceramic Engineers. The National Research Council named him chairman of the s u b committee on ceramic chemistry; h e also served as chairman of the research committee of the U. S. Potters Association. Born in Polling, Germany, in 1873, h e entered Ohio State University in 1896. In 1907, he went to the University of Illinois where he was made full professor a n d placed in charge of the department of ceramic engineering in 1910. He m o v e d to Pittsburgh in 1912 t o become chief of the Division of Ceramics of the Bureau of Standards. In 1920, he accepted t h e position of chief chemist of the Homer Laughlin China Co. of Newell, W. V a . , where he continued until his death in May 1936. A n y member of the American Ceramic Society may nominate a candidate for t h e award. All such nominations must b e m a d e in writing, and must be submitted t o t h e chairman of the award committee o n or before Dec. 15. A nomination m u s t ibe accompanied by a complete statement «concerning the nominee's career a n d Achievements a n d m u s t certify to h i s -worthiness. A. P.
