AstraZeneca Excellence in Chemistry Awards 2011 At AstraZeneca, we recognize that advances in medicine rely on innovations in organic chemistry. We are introducing a global awards program to reward outstanding academic contributions to the field. The AZ Young Investigator Awards are presented to talented young academic researchers who have demonstrated distinct achievements in synthetic, computational, mechanistic or bioorganic chemistry. The program selects two AZ Young Investigator Awards annually in each region - North America, Europe and Asia. We are proud to present the 2011 award winners: • Dr Govindasamy Mugesh, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India For contributions to the understanding of metalloproteins and methodologies for functionally mimicking their active sites • Professor Shuli You, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, China For stereoselective C-H functionalisation and catalytic, asymmetric dearomatisation reactions • Professor Lutz Ackermann, Georg-August-University Göttingen, Germany For new, widely applicable ruthenium catalysed C-H functionalisation protocols • Dr Hon Wai Lam, University of Edinburgh, UK For new methodology of broad utility, particularly new metal catalysed reactions that increase molecular complexity • Professor André Beauchemin, University of Ottawa, Canada For new methods for the synthesis of nitrogen containing molecules • Professor Neil Garg, University of California, Los Angeles, US For new synthetic methodology enabling the synthesis of bioactive molecules
