ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST/ PROCESS DEVELOPMENT Merck Sharp & Dohme Research Laboratories, a world leader in pharmaceutical process development, is seeking an outstanding individual for its' Environmental Engineering Lab group. The position involves broad technology based environmental support to a multi-disciplinary process development area. Specific responsibilities include: • carrying out experimental programs aimed at the resolution of specific environmental problems • assessing the environmental impact of wastes resulting from the introduction of new manufacturing processes • assessing the ecological impact of agricultural and animal health chemicals and biologicals • developing innovative environmental assessment methodology • interacting with a multiplant manufacturing division on the operation of treatment plants and resolution of specific problems Candidates must possess an MS or Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering, an in-depth knowledge of biological and physical/chemical waste treatment technology, and demonstrated competence in carrying out independent experimental work. Ability to communicate well and strong interpersonal skills are also required.

The Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory's Applied Science Division is seeking a research scientist to join its Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality group. Will independently develop and conduct research on: utilization of multiple tracer gases to study ventilation of large buildings, inhibiting the emission of pollutants from materils or the transport of pollutants into buildings, and ulitization of heat pumps to recover energy in exhaust ventilation systems. Responsibilities may include the following: theoretical analysis of the feasibility of control techniques, design and assembly of experimental systems and performance of experiments. Will prepare publications for reputable archival journals. Requires a strong theoretical background in transport processes and/or chemistry. Experience in experimental techniques and computer programming, and demonstrated, effective writing capabilities are required. Familiarity with HVAC systems or with operation of a gas chromatograph is desired. Advanced degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
