Column Chromatography Aid Anyone using chromatographic columns has probably desired a method of attaching a small bore tubing such as the in. Teflon" tubing used an the columns made by Pharmaeia toasolvent reservoir. Useof rubber stoppers and glass tubing for these connections is limited t o solvents which do not attack rubber or glass. A satisfactory connection can be made by simply punching a small hole in a polyethylene bottleof thedesired size withan awl and then quickly inserting the Teflon' tubing. The polyethylene shrinks back, closing the hole around the tubing. Connections made in this fashion have been tested under as much as 15 psig pressure on the solvent with no leaks observed. Reservoirs can also be joined in series with this technique to provide greater capacity far longer column operating times such as overnight. l/r6
