Computer Programs for the Analysis of Chromatographic Data Two computer program have been written in Fortran IV (WATFOR) for the interpretation of chromatographic results obtained by column chromatogrephy. The first, AAA, requires an input of peak areas obtained from the amino acid analysis of a protein hydrolysete, the calibration values for each peak, the weight of sample for analysis, and appropriate dilution frtetors. The program calculates the grams of each amino acid per 10,000 g protein and the relative amounts of amino acids in the sample to each amino acid. Printout can be to a teletype, magnetic tape, or high speed printer. The second program, AMOUNT, can be used to analyze a chromatograph consisting of up to 100 peaks collected using data acquisition equipment. The program will calculate peak mess and the relative amounts of all components present to each component in the sample. To date, the program has been used to analyze gas chromatographic results for chromatography of methyl esters of fatty acids, hydrocarbons, and other compounds as well as the gel permeation chromatography of protein solutions. The program could he easily modified for analysis of any other type of column chromatography. Copies of each program including brief instructions are available upon request.
