Correction to Amorphous Characteristics of an Ultrathin Cellulose Film [Biomacromolecules 2011, 12, 770–777 DOI: 10.1021/bm101382q]. Box 64, 00014 Helsinki University, Finland § Centre de Recherche sur les Macromolecules Vegetales (CERMAV-CNRS), BP 53, 38041 Grenoble Cedex 9, France Page 773. We recently noticed that the cellulose volume fraction equal to 14% reported in Table 1 in the case of the film swollen in D2O was incorrect. The reason is that the calculation of the scattering length density (SLD) of amorphous cellulose in D2O failed to take into account the H/D exchange of the protons of the hydroxyl groups. The SLD for amorphous cellulose in D2O to be used in the calculation is 3.45 Å 2 (instead of 1.78 Å 2). The correct value for the cellulose volume fraction in the case of the film swollen in D2O is 21.7%. The corrected Table 1 is: Table 1. Additionally, the following correction is needed in the article: Page 773, correct to, “At the same time, as expected, the cellulose volume fraction decreased to 0.217, that is, the water uptake of the films is 78.3%.” The corrected value has only very minor consequences on the conclusions, and no further modification of the text is needed. The authors apologize for unintentionally misleading the readers.
