In the new Fluid Catalytic cracking units the solid catalyst in powdered form is handled like a fluid and is circulated at the rate of thousands of tons per day. This is accomplished by using the basic principle of the air lift with no mechanical handling of the catalyst. Not only a r e mechanical difficulties obviated but the system is practically "voteless." Through intensive research in the field of gel type catalysts, Davison was ready to furnish the basic principle and the catalyst required in fluid catalyst cracking units for the manufacturing of high octane gasoline.
