The reaction of anhydrous UCI4 with R2NH and C 0 2 gives the N,N-dialkylcarbamato derivatives of uranium(IV), U(02CNR2)4,predominantly. Evidence is presented that the reaction probably takes place via the preliminary fast formation of NH2R2+NR2C02-.Infrared spectral data suggest that monomeric U(02CNEt2)4has probably bidentate carbamato groups in poorly donating solvents and the study of its reactivity has indicated that it may be regarded as a useful intermediate for the preparation of uranium(1V) compounds. Similarly, the reacting system UC14-Et2NH-CS2 gives tetrakis(N,Ndiethyldithiocarbamato)uranium(IV), most probably via the preliminary fast formation of NH2Et2+NEt2CS
