DCB's are highly reactive. High reactivity, coupled with dual functionality and high chlorine content, make the Dichlorobutenes attractive candidates for the manufacture of many industrial products including lacquers, plastics, adhesives, lubricants, agricultural chemicals, rubber and plastic additives, and pharmaceutical products. The 1-4 Dichlorobutene-2 in particular can be used to make a large number of symmetrical unsaturated diamines, diethers, diesters, dinitriles, diimides, diurethanes, dithiocyanates, and the nylon 66 precursor, hexamethylenediamine. The high chlorine content suggests an interesting route to the introduction of flame-retardant properties in polymers, lubricants, and additives.
1,4-Dichlorobutene-2 and 3,4-Dichlorobutene-1 will be manufactured as intermediate products in our new Neoprene plant scheduled for completion in early 1969. In the meantime, developmental quantities are available for bench-scale evaluation.
