T h e analyses a b o v e show that P e r m u t i t * D e m i n e r alized water is suitable for almost any application for w h i c h c o m m e r c i a l distilled water i s indicated. T h e low cost of producing it makes it a n attractive substitute for distilled water. Distillation costs vary widely, but are a l w a y s h i g h , ranging from sixty cents t o more t h a n e i g h t dollars per 1,000 gallons. Demineralizing costs d e p e n d o n the quality of t h e raw water, but are usually l o w e r than distillation costs. T h e Demineralizing Process consists of t w o s t e p s : First, Zeo-Karb* H, Permutit's acid-regenerated
cation exchanger, replaces metallic cations in t h e water with h y d r o g e n i o n , converting salts present into corresponding acids. T h e n D e - A c i d i t e * , Permutit's resinous anion exchanger, removes t h e s e acids from t h e water. Permutit Demineralizers are i n operation in m a n y fields. T h e y are being used to purify non-aqueous solutions, recover wastes, concentrate solutions, etc. F R E E B O O K L E T giving full details w i l l be sent upon request to T h e Permutit Co., D e p t .
