Elemental Analyzer CHN-O-Rapid Characteristics
Advantages
Applications
Sample weights: from 0.2 to 200 mg, depending on sub stance (e.g., samples of nitroaniline from 0.2 to 25 mg).

Multifunctional analyzer with four differ ent operational modes: CHN, CH, Ν and Ο (optional); easily converted for Ο determination in only about 5 min.
Recording of sample weights: manual with a balance not connected to the analyzer; automatic with interfaced electronic balance and computer. Sample feed : automatic, 49 samples; can be switched from continuous to single feed. Working temperatures: Combustion zone: 950 to 1050 °C. Reduction zone (two heating tubes): 550 to 700 °C. All three heating tubes may be used for special applications up to 1150 °C. Special combustion tubes for corrosive substances. Combustion time: variable from 0.1 to 9.9 min; recommen ded combustion time: 1.5 to 3 min. Indication of measured values: with computer: automatic print-out in %; with printer (optional): automatic print-out of integrals. Data output: BCD, + 5 volt TTL, positive logic. Standard deviation : ± 0 . 1 % (nitroaniline). Absolute deviation : generally < ± 0.2%. Consumption of gas per analysis: 1 to 1.5 litres of He and 40 to 100 ml of 0 2 for one simultaneous CHN determination. Required consumable reagents and gases: Commercially available reagents, for analysis.
Suitable for all organic and inorganic substances which decompose in an oxygen stream at 1050 °C. • Lower demands on homogeneity by large sample weights. • Uncomplicated, automatic sample feed by vertical combustion furnace: loading of the sample feeder possible at any time during the analytical cycle. • Combustion temperature and tube filling may be adapted flexibly to each measuring problem: hence complete decomposition without additives.

Each desorption process will not be started by the integrator until the integration of the preceding gas com ponent is completed. Hence, extremely different CHN quantities may be measured.
•
Refinery catalysts for the determination of carbon.
•
All sorts of coal, from anthracite to lignite.
• • •
Oil shale, crude and processed. Synthetic oils, benzine and petrol. All sorts of petrochemicals and chemicals, liquid (weighed and burnt in tin capsules) and solid.
• •
Coal liquefaction products. Pharmaceutical products.
• •
Ocean and river sediments. Samples of the soil.
•
Plastics, rubber and synthetic rubber, leather.
•
Plants, wood, food, fruits, animal products.
•
Substances difficult to combust, e.g., graphite. With graphite, a carbon content of 99.6 to 99.9% was found.
Duration of analysis: Simultaneous CHN determinations: 9 to 14 min, CN determinations: 6 to 9 min, Ν determinations: 6 to 9 min, C determinations: 4 to 6 min. Programme for computer-controlled run of the analysis: hence regular, automatic monitoring of the calibration factors, the reduction tube filling, and the mechanical run of the analysis; automatic transfer of the weighing data. Measuring ranges: N: from 0.02 to 5 mg absolute C: from 0.01 to 15 mg absolute H: from 0.001 to 1.5 mg absolute O: fromppm range to % range, depending on the film thickness of the non-dis persive IR photometer. Design featuring easy servicing and hand ling (handy with leak tests, tube changes, etc.) Inexpensive disposable tin boats or cap sules for liquid samples.
