For Sharp, Economical Separation Try QO F U R F U R A L as a Selective Solvent In separating whiskers from manly chins, the razor blade performs the job economically and well. Likewise, in a broad range of chemical separations, users have proved the effectiveness of QO fur fural as a low cost, efficient selective solvent. These uses include: Refining Lube Oils. Furfural refining of lube stock separates the aromatic and olefinic components from the desirable paraffins and naphthenes. Treating Cycle Stock. Furfural treatment sharply reduces carbon lay-down on the catalyst, which means improved cracker efficiency and greater gasoline output. Furfural reduces heavy metal con taminants, sulfur bearing materials, and carbon residue. Purifying Butadiene. Furfural alters relative volatilities of butadiene and other C4 hydrocarbons. This permits easy fractionation of compounds differing in degree of unsaturation to give good yields of high purity butadiene. Upgrading Wood Rosin. Furfural removes color bodies from crude wood rosin to produce a light colored product. Separation of Glycerides. Glyceride oils may be separated by solvent extraction with furfural. Furfural selectively removes unsaturated from saturated glycerides. Separation of Metals. The applicability of furfural in the separation of cobalt ions from nickel ions using calcium chloride as a complexing agent is the subject of a new paper from The Quaker Oats Research Laboratory. If you will write describing the nature of the materials you wish to separate, we'll be pleased to help. For physical data, write for Bulletin 203-A.
