Model D-600 automatic fluorescence monitor is a self-contained automatic monitoring system for the fluorescence quantitation of primary amines. Using a microsampling valve, the system transfers a calibrated aliquot of sample into a buffered stream where it is reacted with a fluorogenic reagent. The resultant fluorescence is measured in a fluorometer and plotted on a strip chart recorder. A major application of the system is effluent monitoring of preparative columns where high sensitivity and low sample consumption are important. Durrum Instrument Corp. 405

Ion Pump Control Units Three new models are available: a dualvoltage unit which powers large ion pumps in the 220-600 L/s range, a constant-voltage unit for 60-300 L/s ion pumps, and a dual-power model for the 1-80 L/s ion pump range. Standard features on all units include overload protection and safety interlocks, as well as amp/hour indicators for maintaining pump life. Perkin-Elmer Ultek Inc. 418

Nitrogen-Phosphorus GC Detector Model 702 combines a unique mechanical design with the latest electronic technology to provide burnout protection for the alkali source. An exclusive desensitizing mode allows routine use of chlorinated solvents and derivatizing reagents not possible with previous designs. Tracor Instruments 417

Chemicals Oxygen and Toxic Gas Monitor The OTOX 80 measures the proportion of oxygen in the atmosphere and, cumulatively, a specific toxic gas content. It incorporates an electrochemical cell with an output directly proportional to the absolute percentage oxygen level in the atmosphere. When the oxygen level falls below 17% concentration in air, a solid-state, self-checking circuit activates a two-tone audible alarm and a flashing yellow light. A prepacked card carrying a chemical reagent is pushed into a slot in the instrument to detect the toxic gas. If it is detected above the accepted level, the alarm and a red flashing light are activated. Cards for detecting hydrogen sulfide are available; cards for carbon monoxide, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, and ammonia are under development. Standards for Air Pollution Measurements Methane in air (SRM 1658 and 1659) and methane and propane in air (SRM 1660) are intended for calibrating instruments and techniques used to analyze the hydrocarbon content of the air. The concentration of methane or methane and propape is certified with total uncertainty of 1 % relative and is considered to be stable for at least one year. They are supplied in steel cylinders containing 0.85 m 3 at standard temperature and pressure at a cost of $283/cylinder.
