IMPROVEM GREATLY
NOW IN SENSIVITY
NMR& EPR With the new C-1024 Time Averaging Computer accessory for Varian spectrometers, sensitivity is essentially limited only by the time you want to invest. Here's how it works: During the data accumulation period, resonance information is converted into digital counts and stored in the computer's 1024-channel ferrite-core memory. Subsequent scans are then synchronized with the memory address so that signals are added coherently. Noise, however, accumulates randomly, and is averaged by the computer, resulting in an improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio equal to the square root of the number of scans taken. There is no theoretical limit; one extended laboratory experiment actually improved the ratio by 50 times! Varian's C-1024 computer is manufactured according to Varian specifications by the Mnemotron Division of Technical Measurement Corporation.
