Of the five review articles presented in Volume 68, one is concerned with analytical methods. The chapter contributed by Robert G. Lewis deals with the determination of arsenicale in foods and other biological materials. Discussions include sample preparation and eventual analysis of the samples for total arsenic content and the determination of specific arsenic compounds by various analytical methods such as colorimetry, atomic absorption spectrometry, activation analysis, electrochemistry, and chromatography.

sponsored by the Analytical Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society at the Society's Fall Annual Meeting in 1976. The purpose of the symposium was to bring together research workers involved in spectroscopic and electrochemical studies in the three major classes of nonaqueous solvents: organic solvents, covalent inorganic solvents, and molten salts. As such, the contributions vary greatly in their length and manner of presentation. Whereas some contributions are concerned primarily with a review of the developments in a particular area, others focus on the research work carried out in the author's own laboratory. The book is reproduced from typewritten text.

Volume 3 of the series devoted to compilation of metal complex equilibrium constants contains formation constants and corresponding enthalpy and entropy values for all metal-ligand reactions involving organic ligands other than amino acids and amines. All listed values represent the authors' choice of the most reliable values from those available in the literature. If several workers are in close agreement on a particular value, the average of their results is selected for that value. Values showing considerable scatter have been eliminated. In

THE INTELLIGENT ELECTRONIC BALANCE ...ONLY $1395.00
Scientech's new dual range toploader has built-in microprocessor controlled data handling capabilities. More than an electronic balance, Scientech's new 3300 Series is a data processing instrument that can be programmed to perform a wide range of complex weighing and data conversion functions . . . automatically, quickly and repetitively. An optional data input keyboard is used to program the microprocessor " b r a i n " in the balance, then the balance does the rest. The 3300 can store data, convert it from one unit to another, count parts and much more. A variable integration time feature assures accurate readings in hostile or unstable environments. And, since the balance does the " t h i n k i n g " , not the keyboard, one keyboard can serve many balances. Even if you don't presently need the data handling capabilities of the 3300, you still get a fullfeatured toploader at a great price. For instance, BCD output is standard on the 3300. So is weighing in two ranges: 0-30.000g and 0-300.00g, instantaneous digital tare, clear LED display, all in a compact and attractive case. Only Scientech can offer you an intelligent balance with these features for $1395.00. Call or write for descriptive literature. / For more information write or call

Books cases where the agreement is poor and few results are available for comparison, more subtle methods were used to select the best value. The six-page introduction describes in great detail the arrangement and use of the tables. The 88-page-long list of bibliography embraces the literature from 1904 to 1976. Also provided are ligand formula and name indices. Chemical Analysis of Organometalllc Compounds, Vol. 5. T. R. Crompton. xi + 432 pages. Academic Press, Inc., Ltd., 24-28 Oval Rd-, London, NW1 7DX, England. 1977. $46.50
The first four chapters of Volume 5 cover the chemical analysis of organometallic compounds containing metals from Groups 6A, 6B, 7A, and 7B of the periodic table. The fifth and the longest chapter (260 pages) of the book deals with the organometallic compounds of aluminum, and the last chapter with organometallic compounds of zinc. Each chapter begins with a discussion of the determination of elements and of functional groups. 588 A ·
Following this introduction there are various sections devoted to a discussion of different analytical techniques for analysis of the different classes of compounds of the element in question. The analytical techniques range from classical titrimetry to more sophisticated modern instrumental techniques. Throughout the book, enough experimental details are given to allow duplication of the procedures without further reference. Treatise on Analytical Chemistry. Part III: Analytical Chemistry in Industry, Vol. 4. I. M. Kolthoff et al., Eds. xxviii + 686 pages. Wiley-lnterscience, 605 Third Ave., New York, N.Y. 10016. 1977. $39.95
Part III of this long-standing series on analytical chemistry is designed as a comprehensive reference for practicing industrial analytical chemists. As such, the arrangement is encyclopedic especially with respect to procedures. However, certain areas and topics that deal with procedures and activities common to all industrial laboratories

are covered systematically. Volume 4 contributed by 14 authors covers four topical areas. The first section on thermal and chemical testing is further divided into two chapters that deal with surface flammability measurements for building materials and related products, and radiation resistance, respectively. Section 2 on the evaluation of surface properties consists of three chapters entitled: optical methods for directional reflectance, surface properties for the examination and characterization of phase interfaces, and adhesive properties. Section 3 on the evaluation of particle properties is divided into particle size measurement, surface area measurement, and pore size and volume measurement. The last and the longest section covers mechanical and electrical testing. The topics of six chapters of this section are: evaluation of time-dependent mechanical properties, fatigue testing, quasistatic strength, mechanical damping, rheological properties of fluids, and analytical applications of electrical resistivity measurements on polymers.
