Multielement XRF The Simultix 10 and 11 multichannel simultaneous XRF spectrometers determine up to 30 elements simulta neously in their standard configura tions with a typical analysis time of 40 s. Designed for continuous opera tion, they can be used for quality con trol analysis of industrial samples as diverse as steels, ceramics, fertiliz ers, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, ores, petroleum products, and elec tronic and magnetic materials. Each model contains both fixed and scanning goniometers and de tects elements from Be to U. The Simultix 10 has 30 channels with an option to add 10. The Simultix 11 has either 16 fixed channels or 14 plus a scanning goniometer. The fixed goniometer accom modates a selection of analyzing crystals, including LiF, PET, RX4, Ge, TAP, and synthetic multilayer. The scanning goniometer is used to determine heavy elements (from Ti to U) with an LiF crystal and lighter elements (from F to Ti) with TAP, PET, and Ge crystals set in a threecrystal exchanger.

Receptor-ligand assay Application note describes the use of the Cytosensor Microphysiometer for assay ing the functional coupling of cell mem brane and other protein receptors with drugs, hormones, and neurotransmitter ligands. The note compares EC50 values from conventional ligand-binding assays with results obtained with the microphysi ometer. Molecular Devices • 407 NMR Data sheet describes a line of vibration isolation posts and floor platforms for NMR spectrometers. The modular posts, which incorporate piston-based isolators, are designed to replace conventional mag net stands and can be retrofitted to exist ing instruments with installed and ener gized magnets. TMC • 408 TLC bibliography Volume 7 of a cumulative TLC bibliogra phy includes ~ 2300 references pub lished between 1987 and 1993. Each refer ence includes author name and address, paper title, publication details, and an ab552 A

Each spectrometer accommo dates eight samples up to 25 mm thick and 50 mm in diameter and can be combined with an autosampler or with an automated glass bead prepa ration unit, ingot polisher, or other sample preparation system for on line operation. They operate in air or under vacuum and offer optional Ν or He atmospheres. Dedicated software performs theoretical matrix correc tion; automatic group and measuring condition selection; calibration curve selection, correction, and quantita tion; identification and peak separa tion for qualitative analysis; and selfdiagnosis. High-volume GC injection A quantitative cold on-column injector for the GC 8000 gas chromatograph loads volumes up to 500 pL onto the column in a zone. The ability to inject such large volumes directly can en hance the sensitivity of the method. For some samples, the injector elimi nates the need for sample evaporation prior to loading on the column, thereby avoiding loss of volatile spe cies during sample preparation. The injector body is air cooled to prevent vaporization in the needle. A secondary air-cooling system tempo rarily isolates the needle tip and the injection zone from the oven to pre vent thermal degradation, sample back ejection, and band broadening and to permit the use of very volatile solvents. Medium and heavy com pounds can be run isothermally or subjected to short temperature proto cols to reduce total cycle time with out the use of cryogenic fluids. The injector is equipped with a rotary valve and can be converted to a programmable temperature vapor ization injector for capillary GC by adding an externally controlled va porizing chamber module thatfitson the injector base. stract. The type of layer, developing sol vents, and detection and quantification methods used are noted when available. Camag 1 4 1 0 Light scattering Brochure describes the Dawn DSP laser photometer, a research-grade multiangle light-scattering detector for absolute mo lecular weight and size determinations. The detector uses digital signal process ing and can be coupled to a liquid chromatograph for SEC. Chromatography soft ware, optics and electronics, applications, and service and support are discussed. lOpp.Wyatt 1 4 1 1 Mercury monitoring Brochure describes manual, semiautomated, and fully automated systems for routine cold vapor AAS mercury determi nations and the modular components available for each. The brochure also dis cusses the capabilities of the system soft ware and the advantages of automated batch analysis. 8 pp. Thermo Separation Products 1 4 1 2
