Just Accepted “Just Accepted” manuscripts have been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication. They are posted online prior to technical editing, formatting for publication and author proofing. The American Chemical Society provides “Just Accepted” as a service to the research community to expedite the dissemination of scientific material as soon as possible after acceptance. “Just Accepted” manuscripts appear in full in PDF format accompanied by an HTML abstract. “Just Accepted” manuscripts have been fully peer reviewed, but should not be considered the official version of record. They are citable by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI®). “Just Accepted” is an optional service offered to authors. Therefore, the “Just Accepted” Web site may not include all articles that will be published in the journal. After a manuscript is technically edited and formatted, it will be removed from the “Just Accepted” Web site and published as an ASAP article. Note that technical editing may introduce minor changes to the manuscript text and/or graphics which could affect content, and all legal disclaimers and ethical guidelines that apply to the journal pertain. ABSTRACT Lead halide perovskites are potential candidates for wide-color-gamut display applications. Recently, red and green light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on these materials have achieved external quantum efficiency (EQE) of over 20% while the blue devices lag behind them severely because of much lower photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) and inferior stability. Blue perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are promising active materials for high efficiency devices, however, they are reported to exhibit low defect tolerance and suffer from troublesome ion migration behavior. Though some good ideas have been proposed to overcome these problems, the present results are still unsatisfactory. In this perspective, diverse methods toward blue perovskite NCs are summarized, as well as the intrinsic origin of low stability and poor optical properties. Then, strategies to improve their performance and stability, and critical challenges that severely limit the stability and performances of blue perovskite NCs are discussed. Perspectives of further developments both on synthesis and applications of blue perovskite NCs are also provided. TOC GRAPHICS

Halide perovskites have gone through unprecedentedly rapid progress for electroluminescence (EL) applications within several years. The record external quantum efficiencies (EQE) are over 20% for green, red and near-infrared (NIR) regions with different device optimization strategies.1-3 Despite the great success of green or NIR halide perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs), blue emitting devices have become the key shortcoming for the wide-color-gamut display fields. For polycrystalline film LEDs, large efforts should be paid to improve the monodispersity with desired ion spatial distribution and realize highly efficient pure blue luminescence with λPL
