179th ACS National Meeting
Houston will be the site of the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society. Twenty-five of the society's divisions together with various committees will participate in technical sessions covering a wide range of topics. These include sessions on novel approaches to fertility control (Medicinal Chemistry), unusual synthetic methods for solids (Inorganic Chemistry), short-lived and exotic nuclei (Nuclear Chemistry & Technology), public perception of chemical and petrochemical industries (Chemical Health & Safety), and photodegradation, photooxidation, and photostabilization of organic coatings (Organic Coatings & Plastics Chemistry). Reflecting the continuing concern with energy are sessions on liquid fuels from coal, coal liquids upgrading, and environmental control in synfuels processes, sponsored by the Fuel Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry divisions. Other events at the meeting include the Chemical Exposition, sponsored by ACS and the Southeastern local section. About 200 exhibit areas will be available for companies to display their equipment, services, and publications. Also of note are the ACS awards dinner on Monday, March 24, and the ACS Council meeting on Wednesday, March 26. ACS HOUSTON MEETING FLIGHT PROGRAM We at Zoe Newman Travel, Inc. are pleased to be working with the ACS to offer reduced group airfares to the Houston Meeting. Since there is no individual airfare which offers a reduction below coach fare for persons leaving on Sunday and staying for less than a week, group fares offer the least expensive air travel to Houston.
