ONLINEIN PRINT WEB SITES A "virtual" environmental conference, Environment97, planned by the United Kingdom's Institution of Chemical Engineers (http://www. environment97.org), is scheduled for Nov. 3-14 at the Web site, where it appears as a scientific meeting. Registration secures access to all site areas and e-mail updates before the conference. The free conference, only existing on the Internet, includes more than 150 papers on topics ranging from climate change to urban air quality. There is also a concentration of papers about contaminated land and life cycle analysis, topics of particular interest in the United Kingdom. Keynote papers will have corresponding online discussion groups. NPDES Permits Navigator (http:// www.epa.gov/owm/beta7.htm) provides comprehensive information about EPA's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System. The site provides state-by-state updates on permits being decided. Details of pilot projects to make the system more flexible and a link to STORET, the primary information system for EPA, states, and other interested parties for tracking permit data, are also available. The National Estuarine Research Reserves System site (http://www. nos.noaa.gov/ocrm/nerr/welcome. html) offers information about this National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) program to protect and study estuaries. There are links describing the 22 designated estuarine reserves and the 6 reserves under consideration. The site also provides information about research grants. NOAA's estuarine research program also sponsors Estuary Net (http:// inlet.geol.scarolina.edu/estnet.html), a site to assist citizen volunteers and high school students in solving nonpoint source pollution problems in

The Transportation for Livable Communities Network (TLCNet) (http://www.tlcnetwork.org) addresses transportation and its effect on the environment and communities. Three groups, discussing streets and roads, public transit, and policy and planning, allow users to post information and questions. The site also offers documents on transportation and the environment that can be downloaded as Microsoft Word files. TLCNet is a project of the Conservation Law Foundation, a New England environmental advocacy group.
