Limewater Dispenser Bottle Limewater is typically prepared by adding a n excess of calcium oxide or hydroxide to water, shaking it up well, and allowing the excess solid to settle to the bottom of the container. The saturated solution of calcium hydroxide (limewater) i s then removed using a siphon-type arrangement. Inevitably, some student will allow the limewater to siphon out completely, lift the tubing above the liquid level in the bottle (resulting in a loss of siphon), or, worse yet, shake nn -- the bottle I wish tb deacrihe a mod~licatiunthat docs not require the use of a siphon and that at the same time partially filter~the solution, in the event rhor the contents are shaken A hale is furmcd in a 4-Lplastic borrlc ic.g.. methanol container, about 2 cm from rhr hottorn usmg a pwce of hut glass tuhing. A second hole, slightly larger than the glass tubing, is formed near the top of the bottle in which to insert the glass tubing when finished with removing some limewater. The original cap is kept in position. To obtain limewater, the glass end is removed from its rest position and lowered until the solution runs out. To stop the flow, the tube is simply returned to its rest position.
