The Member Communities, Department of Volunteer Support has compiled the Local Section Activities: A Statistical Review - 2012 to offer local sections a closer look at not only what their section has done for the year, but what other local sections in their section size category have accomplished. There are several types of data offered at a glance in this year’s report which was compiled from responses to the 2012 local section annual reports. We encourage you to call or e-mail us for additional information on any of the items listed in this book or with your suggestions and ideas.

ACS Council Committee on Local Section Activities (LSAC) Mission Statement LSAC will work with local sections to enhance their success, to promote the well-being of their members, to foster the spirit of volunteerism, and to carry out the mission of the American Chemical Society at the professional and community level. ACS Member Communities, Department of Volunteer Support Mission Statement The ACS Member Communities, Department of Volunteer Support provides programs, products and services to support and enhance activities at the local level in order to foster volunteerism by encouraging participation and leadership in all aspects of the Society. ACS Award for Outstanding Performance Each year, the ACS Council Committee on Local Section Activities recognizes local sections of the American Chemical Society that have made significant contributions to the welfare of their members and have obtained the public’s awareness of the importance of the chemical profession. By way of a detailed review process, LSAC assesses each section’s activities, based on the section’s annual report, and determines those sections that have exhibited exemplary performance. The committee then selects a winning section in each size category as well as several other sections within the same size category that have had a commendable year. The winning sections -- those sections that have demonstrated meritorious contribution to their members and to the chemical profession -- receive the "Outstanding Performance Award". These awards are presented at the ACS fall national meeting each year. The Council Committee on Local Section Activities and the ACS Member Communities, Department of Volunteer Support congratulates all winners and finalists of the “Outstanding Performance Awards”.
