A weekly subject index will be added t o Current Cont e n t s l l i f e Sciences as a n optional feature beginning J a n uary 1972. The new Weekl?, Subject Index will be bound into each issue of Current ContentslLife Sciences. Generated by computer, it will contain all the significant words appearing in the titles published in the issue in which it appears. Under each index term will be listed the Current Contents page on which the word appears, and, to save the reader the trouble of scanning all the titles on t h e page, the page listed by the primary journal. The index also makes Current ContentslLife Sciences more useful for retrospective searches. Appearing weekly and reflecting the most recent journal literature, it will be the most current life-sciences index available. 260

Over 85,000 abstracts and items of information will be made available in 1971 by Ei. This represents a n addition of 17,400 items, or another 20% gain over the previous year. This is the second year in succession that a n increase of more t h a n 20% has been recorded. These 85,000 units of information are selected from more t h a n 3500 journals, reports, proceedings of conferences a n d symposia, etc. The listings are also arranged alphabetically by 12,300 main headings and subheadings, reflecting the work of 88,000 authors.
