pressure between the several adjacent sec tions, thereby making it possible to feed unprocessed material into t h e production flow while moving the processed material along the line. Each unit is individually designed to meet processing needs and give optimum operation for free flowing or slow moving materials. H 4

Conveyor Moves M a t e r i a l s Horizontally or Vertically The Gifford-Wood Co. is manufactur ing a dust-tight conveyor for handling granular bulk materials, such a s grains and dry chemicals. Known as the Flowmaster. the conveyor moves materials horizontally. vertically, or along inclined planes. It comprises an enclosed chain fitted with specially designed flights which move ma terial along in a continuous stream. The Flowmaster is designed to fit into tight spaces and around existing equipment. It is both self-loading and self-discharging. H S

Shell Develops Gripper Arms Attachment for Moving Oil Drums This lift truck operator is arranging the four oil drums in order to pick them up neatly with the gripper arms, a lift truck attachment developed by Shell Oil Co. The attach ment w a s constructed for Shell by Elwell-Parker Electric Co. The gripper arms are flexible and are shaped to provide a firm grip. The thinness of the arms makes it possible to stack loads close together and makes efficient use of space. Up to nearly two tons can be handled b y the largest gripper arms that Shell has developed
Feeders Permit Accurate Compounding of Micro Ingredients A flexible equipment package for con tinuously feeding and mixing micro amounts of ingredients to formula has been developed by Omega Machine Co. De signed t o promote greater accuracy in premix compounding, the equipment is said to feed vitamin concentrates, micronutrients, and similar materials at precise, uniform rates. The equipment comprises five Model 50 Vitamisers (volumetric disk feeders) with or without scales, mounted on a supporting stand. A single mixing conveyor screw receives the ingredients from the feeders and conveys them to the main feed line. Each feeder can be ad justed t o feed from o n e pound to 60 pounds per hour with an accuracy of 1 to 3 % . H 1
Variable Troughing Belt Idler A variable troughing, belt conveyor idler, designed to provide smooth belt transition between troughing idlers and flat pulleys, is offered by Link-Belt Co. The angle of inclination of the concen trator rolls is adjustable from 20° to fully horizontal. This permits a gradual flat tening o f the belt as it approaches the head pulley, thus minimizing stresses and resulting in longer belt life. T h e idler is available in two types: Link-Belt Series 100, designed for belts

carrying light to medium weight material,ι> in seven belt widths from 24 to 6 0 inches;; and Series 200, for belts carrying heavyν and coarse materials, in six belt widths from 36 to 72 inches. H 2
Dipping Basket American Agile Corp. has developed aa noncorrodible dipping basket which iss made f jm construction grade polyethyl ene. The Agilene Dipping Basket is said to be light in weight, unbreakable, and3 completely inert to chemical attack by acids, alkalies, and other corrosive inor ganic solutions up to 160° F. H 33
Feeder Moves Materials In or Out of Pressure Chambers A pressure feeder has been developedj by John T. Collins & Co. which makes it.. possible to feed bulk materials into and out of a pressure or vacuum chamber with* out stopping the processing operation. Thee Collins-Adey Pressure Feeder is mechanically operated. It moves material byy gravity or mechanical means through anη intermediate pressure lock from one pres»~ sure to another. A hydraulic scoop attachment, which provides controlled dumping at any de sired discharge rate and at any elevation up to the maximum lift height of the truck, is offered by the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co. The scoop can b e attached to any Yale Fork Truck. It pro vides a 38° dumping angle, down from the horizontal, together with a 37° back ward angle for handling loads without spillage. The hydraulic scoop is of all welded construction. H 6
Lift-rite Enables One Person To Upend Drums Safely The Weld-rite Co. is marketing a de vice for drum handling, called t h e Liftrite, which is designed for safe, quick up ending of drums. The lifting tension clinches the Lift-rite securely to the drum and enables one individual to upend a drum without the danger o f slipping or straining. H 7
Baftery-Powered Lift Truck A battery-powered lift truck, manufactured by Barrett-Cravens C o . , has push buttons located conveniently i n the handle for controlling all movements. T h e Bar rett Power Ox is said to take loads up and down ramps with ease and safety. It can also be used for movement of work between machines. H 8
Lift Truck Has Interchangeable Forks A manual lift truck, called the Tumabout Ajust-A-Fork, is manufactured by Rack Hydraulic Equipment Corp. The truck has a capacity of 2 5 0 0 pounds. Standard forks, available in five lengths from 30 inches to 4 8 inches, are easily interchanged. A heavy duty floor lock built into the base of the handle securely brakes the truck when the handle is held in a horizontal position. Η 9
