ACS in San Diego T
he 221st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society will be held Sunday, April 1–Thursday, April 5, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA. The meeting will feature more than 460 technical sessions and presentations. The Division of Analytical Chemistry (DAC) will sponsor or co-sponsor 13 technical symposia. Other highlights include the ACS awards, with an emphasis on the MS of biomolecular systems; ACS workshops and short courses; and a national employment clearinghouse. Social events will include the DAC poster session on Sunday evening, April 1, and a Sci-Mix on Monday, April 2. On-site registration facilities will be located in the convention center. Hours of operation will be Saturday, March 31, 3–7 p.m.; Sunday, April 1, 7:30 a.m.–7 p.m.; Monday, April 2, 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.; Tuesday, April 3, 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.; Wednesday, April 4, 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; and Thursday, April 5, 7:30 a.m.–12 p.m. Registration is $295 on-site for ACS members, $510 for nonmembers, $150 for emeritus or retired members, and $35 for graduate students. One-day session tickets are $150 for members and $295 for nonmembers. An exposition featuring 472 booths and representing 250 companies will present the latest instruments, books, computer hardware, scientific software, lab equipment, furniture, and safety equipment. Located in Hall B2/C of the Convention Center, the exposition will be open Monday, April 2, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Tuesday, April 3, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; and Wednesday, April 4, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. Admission is complimentary for meeting registrants; exhibit-only badges can be purchased for $35 ($10 for students with
school identification). A series of free exposition workshops on various topics will be offered Monday, April 2–Wednesday, April 4. Additional information will be published in the final program. The technical program will be highlighted by the presentation of the following ACS awards: Award in Chro-
matography—Ernst Bayer; Award in Polymer Chemistry—David A. Tirrell; Award in Analytical Chemistry—Klaus Biemann; Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award for Outstanding Achievement in MS—Helmut Schwarz; and the E. Bright Wilson Award in Spectroscopy—William Klemperer.

The DAC dinner is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, April 2, at the Old Spaghetti Factory, 275 Fifth Avenue, San Diego, CA. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the meeting from any DAC officer.
