Γ Ή Ε Chemical Section of t h e American L Association for t h e Advancement of Science announces t w o special research conferences a t Gibson Island, Md., August 15 t o 19 and August 22 to 26, with Harold C. Urey as chairman and Neil E. (lordon, secretary. T h e first conference will have to do with t h e Relation of Struc t u r e of Physiological Action a n d the speakers will include Walter H. Hartung, John H . Speer, Arthur C. Cope, Edward A. Doisy, D . W. MacCorquodale, and George W . Raiziss. T h e other conference will be on Cellular Metabolism and Tissue Respiration with Kurt G. Stern, C . V. Smythe, K. A. C. Elliott, C. G. King, R. W. Gerard, Frederick Bernheim, M . K. Krahl, Frances F . Beck, C. Jelleff Carr, and John C . Krantz, Jr., as speakers. | ^ H E Akron Rubber Group held its sum1 mer outing a t Silver Lake Country Club, June 17, with Jack Waite, as Gen eral Chairman; R. S. Taylor, Golf Chair man; Stoke Cartledse, Chairman of Prizes; and Walter voth, Master of Ceremonies at t h e golf course and prize drawing. The 101 golfers were assisted off the first tee by Mr. Voth a n d his assistants using a loud speaker, six guns, snakes, balloons, rattlers, and other aids to peace and quiet. No record w a s kept of the number of balls which went in t h e lake off the first tee, but there must have been 200 at least. T h e same facilities were pro vided when the boys holed in o n the 18th. Refreshments were provided a t No. 9. An excellent dinner was enjoyed b y 330 guests. I t was t h e most successful outing the group has held. T h e weather was F>erfect and the service at t h e club was exeel lent.

Harbour, of t h e University of Cincinnati, on %*Roots of t h e Family Tree." D r . Harbour was one of the group of scientists who discovered the Peking Man. Present and former officers of the two sections were introduced at t h e dinner, with which t h e day closed.

September 5 t o 9. T h e sessions will begin Thursday noon, September 8, with the organization of t h e convention, appointment of committees, and reports of national officers and dele gates. I n t h e evening an outdoor supper and mixer is planned by the host chapter, with a variety of entertainment a n d an abundant opportunity for the delegates and officers t o get acquainted. Friday and Saturday will he given over t o busi ness. Among the problems to receive at tention will b e a revision of certain fea tures of membership standards, a new ritual for the society, and problems relating to t h e establishment of new chapters and the publication of t h e Register. T h e con vention banquet o n Friday evening will feature t h e national president's address by George I I . Coleman.
