Procter & Gamble makes a full line of quality coconut oil methyl esters, whole-cut and fractionated...including alkyl groups ranging from C 8 —C 10 through C 18 . In addition, we offer TE-1618 made from high quality tallow. You can also select specific blends containing the above alkyl groups in varying percentages. Methyl esters are useful in many applications and in many instances can be direct replacements for fatty acids as chemical intermediates. In the manu facture of high-purity amides, methyl esters offer several advantages over fatty acids. Primarily because of lower reaction temperatures and superior heat stability, methyl esters give higher completeness (higher amide con tent) and better colors. Methyl esters are also used in the preparation of other esters and in anhy drous soaps, since water is not a by-product of the reaction. Other potential applications include: polyester termination, amine and surfactant intermedi ates, solvents, plasticizers, lube additives, cosmetics, coatings, polymers and waxes.
