Industry Eliminating Color Lines In an a d d r e s s before the Urban League of Pittsburgh last year, Fred C. Foy, president o f Koppers Co., drew attention to the fact t h a t industry in general, especially in trie NTorth, is making good progress in integration. University of Pittsburgli, Carnegie Tech, and MIT, for instance, h a v e had no trouble placing their Negro graduates. The U r b a n League reports that it has many requests for trained Negro engineers a n d scientists whicH cannot be filled because so few are trained in these fields. Heretofore txiere Fias b e e n good reason for this, said Foy. Because of the unlikelihood of placement there was n o t the incentive to take such training, n o t to s p e a k of the fact that students from lower-income groups naturally h a d less opportunity. He went on to say that management is realizing more and m o r e that "it is utterly wasteful not to utilize c a p a bilities of all of our people and t h a t shortening t h e available supply by discrimination hecause of race or color just doesn't malce sense/" Copies of the speech, "Integration i n Employment," a r e available from t h e Urban League o f Pittsburgh, 200 Ross St., Pittsburgh 19, Pa., for $40 p e r 1000, $4.50 per 10O, or 5 cents p e r copy. Also available is a four-page r e print of a Pittsburgh Courier series on opportunities in engineering a n d allied professions. Called " T h e r e Is a F u t u r e in Engineering," the p i e c e is primarily for use w i t h junior a n d senior h i g h school students and parent groups. Prices are $ 2 5 p e r 10OO, $2.75 per 100, or 3 cents a copy.

The Cahn Electrobaiance is a n entirely new concept in micro weighing. I t ' s as portable as a typewriter and as easy to set up and operate. It is unaffected by vibration, variable temperature, air cur rents or even by leveling. Sample is weighed by balancing against an electromagnetic torque which is electrically controlled with high precision. Weighing chamber may be removed and operated by remote control.

NEW CONTROL TEST HELPS MAINTAIN HIGHER PURITY OF SUNOCO TOLUENE Result: You Can Make Higher Quality Products parts per million. (Many reagent and other nitration grades contain as much as 500 to 2,000 parts per million.) Sunoco toluene is sulfur-free and contains no gum-forming compounds.

A new Saturate Impurities Test, developed by Sun, helps guarantee you a minimum toluene purity of 99.5%, with an aromatic content of at least 99.8 %. By using high-purity Sunoco® toluene you can g e t better quality control in your products with higher yields and lower production costs. High purity also improves your product color a n d reduces chance of catalyst poisoning. Sunoco toluene consistently
