COLONY COUNTER A brilliantly illuminated colony counter that marks as it counts automatically.
This instrument pro vides four precision methods for counting colonies in various containers. Plates are flooded with cool, soft, glarefree illumination, ψ Even p i n p o i n t ' colonies are accen tuated. A mere touch of each colony with an electric probe actuates an electromagnetic counter and leaves an identifying puncture in the agar. When puncturing is not feasible, a marking pen may be used which marks the glass plate as it counts. Complete with push button counter, automatic reset to zero and magnifying viewer.

The Association of Analytical Chemists has announced that Dr. Harry A. Bright, National Bureau of Stand ards, has been selected as recipient of the 1960 Anachem Award. The award is given annually in recognition of out standing achievement in analytical chemistry. Dr. Bright has been chief of the Analytical Chemistry Section of NBS' Division of Chemistry since 1937, after having joined the Bureau's staff in 1913. He is a charter member of ASTM Committee E-3 on the chemical analysis of metals, serving as its secre tary from 1935 to 1944 and as honor ary chairman since the latter year. Dr. Bright is the author of about 20 research papers on various ana lytical subjects, and is co-author of two textbooks. He was also the first editor of "ASTM Methods of Chem ical Analysis of Metals." He is a mem ber of the American Chemical Society, American Society for Testing Mate rials, Washington Academy of Science, and Alpha Chi Sigma.
Anachems Request Papers The Association of Analytical Chem ists is making arrangements for its 8th annual conference to be held at Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., from Oct. 24 to 26. Papers to be presented at the meeting will be divided into two categories. One of these will consist of papers reviewing methods and tech niques that may find immediate appli cation in the laboratory. The other category will include papers devoted to promising new approaches to ana lytical chemistry that are destined to gain acceptance. Specific subject matter will be related to polarography, emission spectroscopy, x-ray fluo rescence, flame photometry, chromatog raphy, absorption photometry, activa tion analysis, and other topics.
