Hood for Industrial Workers The Taeco hood, lightweight and airsupplied, to protect workers in paint, chemical, woodworking, metallizing, finishing, and allied industries, is announced by the Wesley A. Gibbons Co., Birmingham, Mich. It guards the eyes, ears, face, neck, and respiratory organs from harmful and irritating substances, mists, vapors, fumes, and dusts, and affords safety, comfort, and freedom of body movement. Dial Thermometer Originally built for the shipbuilding in dustry is a new 4.5-inch phenolic case dial thermometer, by t h e Taylor Instrument Cos., Rochester, Ν . Υ. I t is built to withstand severe operating conditions, has Accuratus tubing, and is especially well suited to in stallations requiring a long length of tubing between the bulb and the instrument. The plastic case is resistant to corrosion and shock. T o make reading a t a distance easy the metal dial is finished in black with white figures.

Dust Suppressor A duet suppressor that uses no filters, ex haust fan, or other moving parts is being of fered to industrial plants by Whiting Corp., Harvey, 111. I t is designed to suppress dust and fumes from individual grinders, polish ers, and other operations producing dust and fumes, employing compressed air to create a powerful suction on the hoods and to mix the dust-laden air with water. The dust is knocked out of the air and settles as remov able sludge. A centrifugal pump is fur nished where compressed air is not available.

same supply used to service α spray gun or similar equipment, is fed into the hood through a tube which is held in position at the operator's waist by a belt clip. A re movable diffuser allows the air to expand and discharge a t the top of the hood from where it floats down over the operator's head.

Deslc-Size "Super-Eye" Presented The electron microscope was shown in console desk form for the first time at the wartime conference of the Society of American Bacteriologists by V . K. Zworykin (seated left), associate director of the RCA laboratories, James Hillier, pioneer in electron microscopy, and Perry C. Smith (standing), RCA Victor design engineer. This model opens exploration to smaller laboratories, schools, hospitals, and factories. Operation has been simplified. It will magnify particles of matter up to 100,000 times.
