NEW EQUIPMENT NOTES Can Cover T H E Master Manufacturing Co., Chicago, 111., has developed the C3 Econ-o-can cover and can for use with the spray gun.
The cover fits most standard quart fric tion top paint cans. This type of appara tus, formerly made of aluminum, is now of steel. Gage Protector The Lapp chemical porcelain snubbertype gage protector makes possible the use of standard direct-acting pressure gages in systems handling corrosive liquids, without danger of damage t o the gage or contamination of product. In construction, the gage protector con sists of a chamber of chemical porcelain enclosing a porcelain float ground and
lapped to a soaooth precision fit. The gage is mounted in t h e cap in a standard 0.25-incb pipe tap. The cavity between float and gage is filled with neutral oil. Pressure from fclie line or vessel below is transmitted through -the float to the oil above. Danger- of seepage past the float is minimized b y the smooth tight fit, and by the fact fchat pressures are equal above and below the float. The protector is designed to fit Lapp porcelain pipe o f 1 inch inside diameter. Lapp Insulator Co., Inc., Chemical Por celain Division, LeRoy, Ν. Υ . Vertical Turbine Pump Bowls Layne & Bowler, Inc., Memphis, Tenu., recently has designed, and developed a line of high capacity vertical turbine pump bowls. These bowls are intended pri marily for pumping -water from flowing streams or lakes for war plants, but may be used in large diameter wells for indus trial or municipal water supplies. Surface Facer An adjustable tool for efficient surface facing in horizontal or vertical milling ma chines, lathes, a n d other spindle machines is announced b y Robert H . Clark Co., 3424 Sunset boulevard, Los Angeles, Calif. It consists of a tapered (or straight) shank and body with three adjustable high-speed bits, -which may b e set for any diameter within the range of the tool. With only four tools any diameter from 1.25 to 5 inches may b e obtained without being limited t o standard fractional di mensions. A measuring gage is provided with each tool f o r quick ana accurate size adjustments. Relay A i r Valve For better process control through faster operation of large diaphragm valve motors or of valves loca-tedat unusually longdistances from controlling instruments, Tay lor Instrument Companies, Rochester, Ν . Υ., have announced the Taylor booster relay air valve. It is an auxiliary device which provides accelerated valve action to eliminate t h e effect of lag in large diaphragm motors and/or in long air lines between controlling instruments and diaphragm motors.

Remote Electro-Hydraulic Transmitter The Askania Regulator Co., Chicago, 111., has developed a remote control device which combines 'the advantages of the j e t pipe principle with t h e functions of a Selsyn motor. By combining: the Selsyn -with the h y draulic jet pipe, the Selsyn movement need merely operate t h e sensitive jet pipe which is practically frictionless and thus transmit the original impulse through a hydraulic system with sufficient power t o operate heavy dampers, butterfly valves, or other equipment requiring accurate re mote operation. Plastic Pipe Seal Plugs Plastic pipe seal plugs provide protec tion for threads of units in storage or in transit, according to American molded Products Co., 1644 ïtforth Honore st., Chicago, 111. CHEMICAL
These light, tough, durable, noncorrosive plastic seals replace critical materials, and protect threads against damage, moisture, dirt, weathering, rust, and corrosion. New'Air-Operated Controller A new air-operated automatic control instrument, known as convertible freevane controller, is announced by the Bristol Co., Waterbury, Conn. The new
instrument is made for automatically controlling temperature (up to 3,600° F.), flow, liquid level, pressure, draft humidity, pH value, and time program. The convertible free-vane controller operates on the same basic free-vane principle as that used in previous models offered by the company. In the convertible-type controller a number of design refinements have been incorporated, which simplify the instrument and make it more convenient to service. It is also designed so that the user can convert from one type of control system to another. The new instrument i s offered in the following types: Monoset (on and off), Ampliset (throttling), Preset, Reset, and Magniset. Adjustments for fitting the controller to the requirements of the process are located on a dial board above the chart. Sight Flow Indicator •Fischer & Porter Co., 911 County Line road, Hatboro, Penna., announces the "Rota-Sight" for flow indication where an approximation of the amount of flow rate
is an operating aid and necessity. This flow indicator clearly shows when a liquid or gas is passing through a line. It has an indicating float which moves up and down in a Pyrex tube in direct proportion to the amount of flow. Instantaneous response to flow change is obtained by the tube into which triangular V-ported flutes are formed. The Rota-Sight is particularly sensitive to low flows and informs the operator the very second the flow starts. The float is readily visible even through opaque fluids. New Equipment Notes duced a new line of Aero—Seal iiosc clamps in fourteen sizes. The b-asis o f the design was the requirements s e tτ forth in Army Air Force Specification Γ\ ο. ί£5529. The hose clamp consists o f a e/ie-inch tempered steel band punched: with holes corresponding to the teetli of a. worm gear. These holes mesh with a worm in the hous ing welded to the fixed «nd o f the band. The worm is turned by a screw drivei, and the screw head on the worm i s fitted with a safety cup which prevents the screw driver from slipping and puntcturirxg the hose or damaging other equipment.
Lubricator Α new device for the automatic applica tion of controlled volume of lubricants, ranging from oils t o heavy fibered greases, to the bearings of conveyor trolley wheels is announced by the J. N. Fauver Co., Inc., Detroit, Mich. I t is said to be especially useful on conveyors in process industries that pass through kilns, dryers, and other hot zones and on conveyors carrying finished products that must be protected from grease or oil stains.

To provide an accurate continuous record of thickener operation, the Dorr Torq Recorder has been developed by The Dorr Co., Ν. Υ. City. Designed for use on Dorr "A" thickeners equipped with a standard overload alarm, it is par ticularly applicable where appreciable fluctuations in the drive unit load are caused by variations in solids accumula tion in the thickener. The recorder consists of two electrically connected control parts, the transmitting unit and the recording unit. The trans mitting unit is built into the standard overload1 alarm on the drive head, while the recording unit can b e located at the control station or any convenient point. As the load develops in the thickener,
