The leaks are then isolated by a pneumatic packer and plugged in seconds with a polymer sealant. This inspection, conducted by the Gannett Fleming Corddry and Carpenter group, will reduce wastewater loads at treatment facilities and benefit the homeowner in the end. Central Pennsylvania residents may be drinking acid minedrainage water soon. The solution to their water shortage is a new water treatment plant which will convert acid water from the abandoned mines into clean, potable water by means of ion exchange resins. The Rohm and Haas process uses ionized plastic beads to exchange unwanted material in water for desired compounds or compounds easily removed by another treatment process. As much as 800.000 gpd of water are now processed, with anticipated capacity of 1 million gpd by next year. Air quality may be a problem lor arc?as i n New York. New Jersey, and Puerto Rico. The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to designate 25 areas as regions likely to encounter problems in maintaining clean air standards between 197585. These proposed areas would undergo further analyses by the states to determine whether control plans are necessary. Recommended control strategies include modifications to existing methods for minimizing emission of pollutants from new and existing sources, and to state implementation plans.
