Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2002, Vol. 45, No. 10 5A
Notice Perspective Series The Perspectives series of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry is designed to provide a forum for recognized experts to review in an intelligent and critical manner the status of an area of medicinal chemistry or therapeutic target. Articles that focus on policy issues are invited provided that their content and viewpoint relate directly to the primary purpose and subject matter of the Journal. The objective of the Perspectives series is not simply to provide a comprehensive or exhaustive review of material but rather to provide a critical enlightenment of an area or target with the intent of indicating the current status, the potential strategic directions for future progress, and the limitations of past and current approaches. Authors will thus be expected to exhibit a degree of editorial freedom in the manner in which they approach their topic. All articles submitted are subject to the normal reviewing protocols of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. Consistent with the intent of the Editor to maintain the high visibility of the Perspectives series within the academic, industrial, and biotechnology communities, we plan the series to be of both interest and value to a broad range of scientists. We also intend that within the series a variety of opportunities will be provided to authors with which to fulfill the overall described objectives. These will include the following: 1. Perspectives: regular articles within the guidelines indicated. Generally these articles will not exceed 15 journal pages and should not contain more than 150 references. 2. Miniperspectives: short articles that provide a critical, highly focused, and nonexhaustive treatment. These articles will not exceed four journal pages and should be limited to 30 references or less. 3. Award Lectures: invited publication. Awardees of prestigious awards, both inside and outside the American Chemical Society, in the broad area of medicinal chemistry will be invited to prepare their addresses for publication in the Perspective series. 4. Retrospective Viewpoints: invited publication with personal emphasis. Individuals distinguished for their lifetime contributions to medicinal chemistry will be invited to prepare an article with a personal emphasis that describes and documents their career and their contributions to the discipline. Each article will be published with a brief biographical sketch and a photograph of the author(s). Manuscripts are typically submitted at the invitation of the Perspectives Editor. However, we welcome both suggestions for potential authors and contributions from interested individuals. Potential authors should first contact the Perspectives Editor with a one-page outline of the topic and a brief statement of why the proposed article fits the guidelines for the series. We welcome your comments and contributions, which should be addressed to David J.
