ENGINEERING FOUNDATION CONFERENCE IN BANFF Preface This issue includes a selected number of refereed publications of the manuscripts presented during the CRE VIsChemical Reactor Engineering for Sustainable Processes and Products Conference. This technical meeting brought together close to 90 scientists and engineers representing academia and industry from more than 20 countries. The conference focused on environmental issues and novel environmental technologies for chemical processes. The impressive scene of the Rocky Mountains and the facilities of the Professional Development Centre for Conferences provided a unique setting for this conference. The intense 5 days of the conference activities allowed for most interesting technical presentations, informal discussions, and renewed friendships. Altogether the CRE VI Banff Conference turned in a unique forum of discussion of environmental issues and novel technologies from the perspective of reactor engineering. We are particularly indebted to various authors and special guests for their plenary lectures and oral and poster presentations. Each of the more than 80 contributions was followed by animated exchanges. We express our special acknowledgment to the participants, who contributed innovations, new research approaches, new modeling efforts, and invaluable critical comments. We are also indebted to the seven plenary lecturers, who highlighted the topics of the conference with their contributions: Maurice Bergougnou, The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada; Jean Rene Bernard, ELF, France; Anthony Dixon, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA; Milorad Dudukovic, Washington University, St. Louis, MO; Henry Foley, University of Delaware, Newark, DE; Murray Gray, The University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Thierry Gauthier, IFP, France. We are particularly thankful to the conference co-chairs Prof. F. Berruti, University of Saskatchewan, Prof. M. Dudukovic, Washington University, and Dr. J. Lerou, Dupont, for their continuous support and advise during the stages of the conference planning. We also express our acknowledgment to Mr. S. Afara of CREC, University of Western Ontario, Canada, for his most valuable collaboration during the organization of this conference. Finally, special thanks go to the staff of the Engineering Foundation, who helped so effectively with the coordination of the conference, calls for papers, and conference development.
