Those planning to attend the Los Angeles meeting should fill out the registration card on page 45 and send it back prior to March 8. Registration facilities at the meeting will be located at the Biltmore, Galeria Level, Los Angeles Hilton, Mezzanine, and Ambassador, Lobby. Room reservations should be made as soon as possible. A housing request form, map showing hotels/motels in Los Angeles : see pages 43, 46. Please note that all housing requests must be sent to the Meetings and Expositions Office, ACS, 1155—16th St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. Reservations will be confirmed directly to the individual concerned, indicating the hotel/motel assignment and guaranteed rate. Please allow the Meetings and Expositions Office at least two weeks to process your request before inquiring about it. Hotels are not obligated to hold reservations after 6 P.M. unless specifically requested: HOLD FOR LATE ARRIVAL—GUARANTEED PAYMENT. Please note that very few rooms are available at the minimum rates listed on page 43. Tickets. Tickets to ACS functions may be purchased in advance. Detailed information and an order form will be published in the final program on Feb. 15. Awards reception, dinner, and general meeting. The awards reception, dinner, and general meeting have been scheduled for Monday evening, March 29, in the Biltmore (reception: 6:30 P.M., Colonnade Room; dinner, 7:30 P.M., general meeting, 9 P.M., Blue Ballroom, Galeria Level). There will be additional seating for those wishing to attend only the general meeting. A ticket order form will appear in the final program. At the general meeting, Frederick D. Rossini will present the Priestly Medal Address entitled "Chemical Thermodynamics in the Real World." Committee rooms. Groups planning committee sessions in conjunction with the Los Angeles meeting are urged to submit their room requests immediately to the Meetings and Expositions Office. Please indicate the day the space will be needed, the hours, equipment desired, and the expected attendance. Divisional meeting rooms. Divisional meeting rooms will be equipped with standard lantern-slide projectors—2" X 2" (35 mm.) and 3V 4 " X 4"—screens, blackboards, flashlight pointers, chalk, and reading desk with public address attachments including lapel microphones. picture and other special equipment upon the request of the divisions or individuals if notice of such special needs is sent to the ACS Meetings and Expositions Office by Feb. 12. Group Events. In order for tickets to be available for sale to advance registrants, requests for group events should be sent immediately to A. T. Winstead, ACS, 1155—16th St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. Hotels in Los Angeles have agreed to arrange social hours only if sponsors guarantee payment of a $35 service charge unless receipts exceed $150. For information to help in determining the type of function to schedule, hotels have submitted the following average menu prices for meal functions in private rooms: breakfast, $4.00; luncheon, $5.50; dinner, $8.00. These prices include tax and gratuities. Ladies' program. Details of an attractive program planned for the ladies attending the Los Angeles meeting will appear in the final program. The Ladies' Hospitality Center will be in the Grecian and Atheneum Rooms, Biltmore, first floor. All ladies who are registered for the meeting are encouraged to attend any of the technical sessions which might be of interest. ACS Mixer. The ACS Mixer will be Tuesday, March 30 at 10 P.M. in the Biltmore Bowl of the Biltmore.
EMPLOYMENT AIDS The following employment aid will be available to members at the Los Angeles national meeting : EMPLOYMENT CLEARING HOUSE
The Employment Clearing House will be located in the Rex Room of the Biltmore Hotel and will be open from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Thursday, March 29-April 1. Registration of applicants only will begin on Sunday, March 28 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Members and student affiliates may submit forms in advance, which will reduce the time required to register. However, no records are placed on file for review until after the candidate has reported in Los Angeles and completed all registration requirements. Request forms from ACS Employment Aids Office, 1155—16th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036, and mention the Los Angeles meeting. Deadline for receipt of completed forms at the National Office is March 15. Employers who wish to prepare Position Available forms in advance may obtain standard forms from the ACS Employment Aids Office. A separate form should be completed for each job description, which may be returned to the National Office prior to the meeting or delivered to the NECH at the meeting. Both candidates for employment and employers' representatives must be registered and in attendance at the meeting to use the NECH on spot facilities. However, the national meeting registration fee may be waived for an unemployed full-dues-paying member who uses the National Employment Clearing House. Further details on employment aids will appear in the Feb. 15 issue of C&EN.

This course is intended for industrial chemists and chemical engineers who meet problems in the technology of emulsions and dispersions. The purpose of the course is to introduce the theory and principles of colloid and surface chemistry t h a t pertain to the behavior of such systems. The main divisions of the course are based on two factors t h a t control the stability of a dispersion—entropie repulsion and electrostatic repulsion. The course includes demonstrations of equipment for preparing colloidal dispersions or instruments for measuring properties related to their stability. A B.S. in chemistry or chemical engineering is sufficient background.
Modern Organic Synthesis March 27-28—Dr. Barry M. Trost and Dr. Edwin Vedejs; fee $75.
This course is intended for individuals who are concerned with putting organic molecules together. It covers both the methods and tools of organic synthesis, with heavy emphasis on modern aspects of synthesis. Individual syntheses are selected which afford maximum exposure to a variety of concepts and tools. Research supervisors, bench chemists, and teachers will all benefit from the course.
