NEW CHEMICALS AND SPECIALTIES Eleven Additions to Eastman's Organic Chemicals List Eleven chemicals have been added to the list of more than 3500 organic chemi cals supplied by Distillation Products In dustries, division of Eastman Kodak Co.: ο - (2 - Hydroxy - 3,6 - disulfo - 1 naphthylazo)benzenearsonic acid disodium salt, for colorimetric determination of thorium in amounts as small as 5 to 80 micrograms even in the presence of 1000 times this concentration of uranium VI, or in mixtures containing ferric iron. Ν - (4,4' - Dimethoxy - benzohydrilidene)benzylamine, Schonberg's reagent, which will detect as little as 0.04 mg. of elemental sulfur even in the presence of combined sulfur. A blue colored thioketone is formed. m-Aminoacetophenone, melting point 95 to 97° C. N-terf-Butylacrylamide (practical), melt ing point 128 to 130° C. 4-Chloro-2-nitroanisole (practical), melt ing point 97 to 99° C. Diethyl methyloxalacetate ( practical ), boiling point 112 to 117° C./11 mm. 1,2,6-Hexanetriol (practical), boiling point 138 to 145° C./0.5 mm. 2-Methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (practical), melt ing point 2 to 3° C. ;;-Phenylazobenzoic acid, melting point 248° C , decomposes. Sebacyl chloride, boiling point 154 to 156° C./7 mm. 1,1,1 - Trichloro - 3 - nitro - 2 - propanol (practical), boiling point 116 to 120° C./5 mm. CS 1

CS 2 Improved Quaternaries The industrial division of Onyx Oil & Chemical Co. is producing two qixaternary ammonium salts of great interest to users of these deodorant-sanitizers. These two quaternaries are closely related t o Onyx BTC, alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride. They both have materially higher phenol coefficients than BTC, how ever, and have other superiorities. Decontaminating
Agent.
Εnley Products, Inc.'s, CP Cleaner is said to work effectively as a radioactive surface decontaminating agent. The product con tains a wetting agent and a sequestering agent. It is also recommended for many other cleaning uses. According to Enley, the product penetrates and sequesters ions, dirt, and grease, then holds them in suspension. Its neutral pi I makes it effec tive for use on the human body and live stock. CS 4 Rubber Base Paint. Tropical Floorkof^ enamel, developed on a synthetic rubberresin base, not water latex emulsion, has unusual durability on masonry floors, ac cording to the Tropical Paint & Oil Co. Floorkote can be applied to old concrete or new, uncured concrete, to basement lloors, and to floors laid directly on the ground over cinder fill. It dries in four hours to a rich gloss. It seals the floor and will not react with caustic soaps or clean ing compounds, according to the manu facturer. CS 5
