tations whenever they occur on the surface. Based on phenolic resins, Filaplast may be applied by putty-knife or squeegee or may be thinned lor spray application. It sands easily and dries in several hours. It forms an ideal base coat for enamels and lacquers without lifting. Filaplast is flexible ami moisture resistant and may be used on molded fiberglas and plastic products. p 4

Trial Lot Quantities of Diallylcyanamide The American Cyanamid Co. has announced the introduction of trial lot quantities of diallylcyanamide. This now material is a liquid having a boiling point of 222° C. and a freezing point below —70° C. Less than 1% soluble in water at 28° C , diallylcyanamide is niiscible with most organic solvents and acts as a solvent for most natural and synthetic resins. The chemical reactions of diallylcyanamide are based mainly upon the reactivity of the nitrile group with compounds containing active hydrogen, such :is water, amines, alcohols, and hydrogen sulfide. In addition to diallyl«ay:inamido. the dimethyl-, diethyl-, and di isop ropy Icyana mides are also available in experimental quantities. It is felt that all these compounds may be of interest to the paint, paper, petroleum, plastics, rubber, and textile industries. i» i

Unit assemblies heretofore too costly to be molded because of die costs or considered impracticable by the extrusion method can now be cut from plastic sheet and plastic tubing and then fabricated into complete assemblies by hot-gas welding, it is said. p 3

A new polyester plasticizer said to combine many desirable properties of both the monomeric and polymeric types has been put into full plant-scale production by the Rohm «fe Haas Co. Designated Paraplex G-60, the new product is characterized by low viscosity, high plasticizing efficiency, good behavior at low temperatures, light color, broad compatibility, and low cost. As a plasticizer in polyvinyl chloride compounds, the new G-60 is said to bring low-temperature flexibility to polyvinyl sheet and film stocks. In part because of its low viscosity, it has demonstrated its usefulness in the preparation of vinyl dispersion compounds such as organosols and plastisols. Also, it has been found to exert a useful stabilizing action on polyvinyl chloride—type resins, producing compounds which appear t o offer significant advantages by eliminat-

American Agile Corp. has announced the formation and operation of their new plastics division for the welding and flame-spraying of plastics. Thermoplastics such as saran. Polythene, Geon, and Vistanex can be joined together under the Agile hot-gas welding method by butt-welding and fillet welding similar to the welding applications employed in the arc welding of sheet

Three new plastics and resin products have recently been announced simultaneously by the Plaskon Division of Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Co. The newly announced products include a new paper-treating resin, an addition to the family of alkyd plastic molding compounds first announced a year ago. and a new fast-curing resin for the abrasive*, industry. For the paper industry Plaskon is producing an aminoplast wet-strengthening resin which is neither a straight urea nor a melamine and yields approximately twice the wet-strengthening effect of a urea at a cost well under melamine.
