SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST Resource Assessment Division Water Resources Evaluation Department Responsibilities include compiling, analyzing and interpreting large water quality and hydrologic data sets to fulfill mandated and permit-required reporting requirements, and internal/external customer data requests; developing computer programs to assist in data compilation and analysis, and to perform various water quality loading computations; managing the data analysis and reporting functions for various interdepartmental/interdisciplinary District programs; helping with the design and optimization of environmental monitoring networks and participating in field activities to gather environmental data; and preparing periodic technical reports and manuscripts for technical publication. Requirements include proficiency in analyzing and interpreting environmental information and providing defensible solutions to environmental problems; detailed knowledge of water resources management and hydrology disciplines with working knowledge of aquatic chemistry, geochemistry and meteorology (precipitation and evapotranpiration); strong statistical and computer programming (FORTRAN and C) skills on both UNIX and PC platforms, as well as ability in database manipulation and programming; experience in field data collection procedures, laboratory chemical analyses, and data QA/QC is desirable. Ph.D. or MS in hydrology, geochemistry, aquatic ecology, environmental science or engineering, or related discipline, and four to twelve years experience in water quality monitoring, aquatic systems problem solving and modeling. The position may also be filled at the secondary level as a Staff Environmental Scientist. Bachelor's degree in hydrology geochemistry aquatic ecology environmental science or engineering or related discipline with four to seven years qualifying experience SFWMD offers excellent opportunities for continuing professional development. HEAD, ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGY The Earth Sciences Division of the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an opportunity for a scientist or engineer to provide leadership for our environmental remediation technology department. Responsibilities include providing scientific leadership, developing new research programs, securing funding for future and existing projects and overseeing related proposal preparations. Requires experience in providing scientific and management leadership to a group of scientists and engineers and expertise in obtaining significant funding for environmental remediation technology. You must have a comprehensive background in planning research programs and have personally an accomplished record of research and development in a related area. Prior involvement in coordinating a multidisciplinary group of researchers is essential. Knowledge of DOE and DOD environmental remediation technology needs is highly preferred. Prefer a Ph.D. or equivalent in Hydrology, Geochemistry, Civil Engineering, Geology or Chemical Engineering.
