Regulating ingredient delivery. The controlled release of ingredients into aqueous solutions is essential for many formulations. In cleaning systems, the controlled release of sensitive ingredients (such as fluorescent dyes, enzymes, colorants, perfumes, and antimicrobials) can protect them from high pH, bleach or other harsh environments. Timed release also prolongs the efficacy of ingredients in other systems. Unfortunately, assuring the release of a specific ingredient at the proper time is a difficult formulation problem.

One solution to controlled release problems is achieved by coating an ingredient with a component that changes its solubility characteristics. BASF offers a variety of PLU RONIC® PLURAFAC® and ICONOL™ surfactants for controlled release formulations. The unique structures of these surfactants give them a wide range of kinetic solubilities and melting points. Although many are solids at ambient temperatures, PLURONIC, PLURAFAC and ICONOL surfactants are supplied as prills, pastilles, cast

solids or in a molten form. This variety of physical forms aids in mixing, blending or spray-on manufacturing procedures. Continuing product and process research and development assure the quality of BASF surfactants, while our Applications Laboratories stand ready to assist you with selections based on your individual needs.
