Clark Dehne As reported last year, ASTM has put on-line its Terminology Dictionary, which is a compendium of all terms included in over 100 terminology standards. It contains about 30,000 entries. This month, it was announced that the on-line version has added another 46,000 terms which are drawn from the "Terminology" section of standards other than terminology standards, i.e., test methods, specifications, practices, guides and classifications. Usually, it is understood that terms defined in standards other than terminology standards are limited in meaning to the content of that standard only and have not been subjected to the review of a terminology sub-committee. After several years of publications in that sense, such terms may be later balloted for inclusion in the committee's terminology standard(s). The availability of this expanded on-line dictionary is still limited to ASTM members.
