Sorbitol Polyols Though newer polyols for the rigid foam industry have been developed, sorbitol-based polyols, such as Jefferson's THANOL RS-500, RS-600, and RS-700, are still the accepted workhorses. Foams manufactured from these polyols have very low K-factors, excellent K-factor retention and good dimensional stability. These properties can be varied to fit particular applications by blending. For example, rigid foams produced from a blend of THANOL RS-500 and THANOL RS-700 will have increased strength and dimensional stability. Such blends, normally used for the production of slab stock or foamed-in-place foams, find application in pack-
aging; construction; and low temperature insulation for refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerated trucks and boxcars. Fire retrrdant foams having good physical properties can be prepared from blends of THANOL RS-700 and either THANOL RS-500 or THANOL RS-600. Formulations of this type are usually quasi-prepolymers and contain a nonreactive fire retardant additive. Put these sorbitol workhorses to work for you.
