Substitute for Separatory Funnels Marcel Jean Univerritb Laval, Quebec, Canada
.i couveuient substitute for a separatory funnel can be made from a conventional polyethylene wash bottle hy the simple devire show11 in the photograph. Cap A is the usual tight-fitting closure which can be used to seal the bottle during the shaking necessary to effect extraction. After t,he phases have separated, it is replaced by cap B. This is a wash bottle cap modified by cutting off t.he bottom of the delivery tube flush with the under surface of the cap. Squeezing the flexible bottle forces the liquid out of the bottle; pressure is released when the last drop of the desired phase has cleared the delivery tube tip.
