• h e production of sulphur i n the G u l f C o a s t a l Region of Louisiana and Texas b y the Frasch Process, is f r o m u n d e r g r o u n d n a t u r a l beds f o u n d in " d o m e s . " However, very f e w domes have b e e n f o u n d t o contain sufficient sulphur, if a n y , t o be brought into p r o d u c t i o n . I t is estimated t h a t nearly 2 0 0 d o m e structures along the Coast o f the G u l f of Mexico have been investigated over t h e last half-century but only fourteen have produced sulphur in q u a n t i t y . A n d t h e presence of sulphur, even i n q u a n t i t y , doesn't always mean a successful p r o ­ ducer. Some years a g o a dome w a s f o u n d , e x p l o r e d , a n d p r o v e d with the result t h a t a p l a n t for the p r o d u c t i o n o f sulphur was erected at a cost of several million dollars. Later it h a d to be a b a n d o n e d because t h e u n d e r g r o u n d conditions d i d n o t lend themselves to the use o f the Frasch" Process. A

sulphur i n commercial quantities.
